Welcome to Top-bar Bees, a broadly-based information resource for top-bar beekeeping.
This site was created to form a record of the research we did in order to get started with top-bar beekeeping. And we have also included an ongoing account of the results of our own practical, hands-on experience with bees in top-bar hives.
Top-bar hives offer the potential for natural, small-scale beekeeping, suitable for the back yard or the community garden. Honey from top-bar hives complements locally produced fruits and vegetables.
Most of the information available to beekeepers, however, focuses on the use of standard commercial hives. This website aims to redress that imbalance by drawing together, organizing and summarizing the widespread information on top-bar hives in a single location.
